Global Grid for Learning
The Learning Federation’s Discrete Content Collection

1. This material (the Content) is made available by Cambridge University Press (CUP) and The Le@rning Federation (TLF) through the Global Grid for Learning website. TLF is managed by Curriculum Corporation.
2. This summary (the Conditions of Use) is provided to assist the Student or teacher (You) to understand what is permitted and what is not permitted to be done with the Content.
3. You may Use the Content for the non-commerical educational Purposes of the School.
4. 'Use' includes the following uses only:
  • read, view, play, perform, operate or execute the Content (depending on its nature and format), within the functionality that is offered to an ordinary user

  • make Copies of the Content

  • communicate the Content by placing it on the password protected extranet only

  • include the Content in material provided to a Student / created by a Student.

5. You must not supply the Content to any third person or entity unrelated to the School eg by placing it on a generally accessible internet site.
6. You must not develop any sort of Derivative from Content.
7. You must not do anything with TLF Content which would:
  • infringe the Moral Rights of the author

  • be misleading or deceptive.

8. You must not:
  • circumvent any Technological Protection Measure

  • interfere with any Electronic Rights Management Information.

9. Where You Use the Content in accordance with the Licence, You do not need to comply with the requirements of any statutory licence (eg, to pay royalties to a copyright collecting society for that Content).
10. Other capitalised expressions in these Conditions have the following meanings:
Compilation means a collection of items (which may or may not individually have copyright) which are assembled together using sufficient skill and care as to attract copyright protection for the collection as a whole. Examples:
  • inclusion of a learning object in an online course

  • inclusion of a learning object in a set of professional development materials.

Copy means a reproduction of TLF Content in the same or a different medium, but without any other alteration. Examples:
  • printing out a web page that has been downloaded to a browser

  • conversion of an image between different formats such as TIF, BMP, JPEG, etc.

Derivative means any work derived from or developed from TLF Content, including:
  • an Edited Version

  • Enhancements

  • Supplementary Work

  • a Compilation.

Edited Version means a modified version of TLF Content in which the changes made are of such a minor nature that no fresh layer of copyright can be said to arise. Examples:
  • changes to names or addresses in a story

  • minor substitution of the legend or legend elements depicted on the map.

Electronic Rights Management Information means information:
  • identifying TLF Content, the author and/or copyright owner, including the Acknowledgments statement

  • indicating conditions on which TLF Content may be used, including these Conditions of Use.

Enhancements means modifications to TLF Content in which new copyright arises, but only to the extent that the Enhancements cannot meaningfully inform or entertain independently of the original TLF Content. Examples:
  • translation of a story into a different language

  • substantial revision and re-arrangement of an article

  • conversion of an image from 2 dimensions into 3 dimensions.

Moral Rights includes the following rights of an author of TLF Content:
  • the right of attribution of authorship

  • the right of integrity of authorship

  • the right not to have authorship falsely attributed.

Student includes a parent, guardian or tutor assisting a Student in connection with their education
Supplementary Work means substantial additional work which appends, incorporates, is appended to, or is incorporated into, TLF Content, and which has some capacity to inform or entertain independently of the original TLF Content, but does not include Enhancements. Examples:
  • creation of a set of metadata to accompany a learning object

  • addition of a new stylised cartoon character to an interactive game.

Technological Protection Measure means a device or process designed to inhibit infringement of copyright in that TLF Content by either of the following:
  • by ensuring that TLF Content is accessible solely by use of an access code or process approved on behalf of the copyright owner

  • through a copy control mechanism.
